From the invitation below
Dear NFS member,Our next meeting and NFS Luncheon will take place at Los Cabos Mexican Restaurant, Sukhumvit soi 14 (just 2 minutes walk from Asoke BTS or MRT on the same side as the Sheraton Grande) on Wednesday February March 24th from noon-13.30. Dr Kriengsak Chareonwongsakrenowned economist, author and politician the day’s topic being: “Siam Araya”.
Come to enjoy the Los Cabos sumptuous lunch buffet designed to stimulate your taste buds and get a chance to attend a rare presentation with Thai society at present is facing many political, economic and social problems that have all been accumulating for a long time. As time passes, these problems are becoming more serious and intense, with clearly recognizable symptoms arising in some cases, for example in social conflict and disharmony, corruption, a crisis of moral decline, collapse of the family institution, greedy media control, and so on. These signs show that the time has come for Thailand to adjust to a new developmental framework because the existing framework is proving unworkable and the country’s problems will therefore never be solved.
Siam Araya (Thai Civility) originates as a combination of two specific words,  “Siam” and “Araya.” We are all familiar with the word “Siam” as our country’s name before it was changed to “Thailand” during Prime Minister Field Marshal Por Piboonsongkram’s time. Until now, the word “Siam” is still embedded in Thai consciousness and generally used in society.
The word, “Araya” in our case refers to prosperity that is balanced to cover every area of life, whether one’s physical wellbeing or life quality, mental and moral wellbeing, or in relation to sustainable long-term development along with urgent short-term needs. So, combining these two words together as “Siam Araya,” will mean developing Thailand toward prosperity in every dimension, by all means to benefit all groups of people, with no one suffering neglect. Moreover, there will be unity in diversity and peaceful agreement will exist between people.
